“I Lost 51 pounds!”

The Women’s Weight Loss Center at Universal Athletic Club is now proud to offer the Weigh Way Less program, designed by our own licensed dietitian.

Vanessa Weaver of Marietta, PA, shared her own personal success story as a result of the Weigh Way Less program:

“I became a member at Universal because I wanted to lose 50 pounds by my birthday in November, and weight loss attempts on my own were not working. Although I had a workout program upon joining the club, I still did not know what to eat and had difficulty controlling my food portions. One day while in the gym, I saw a flyer for Weigh Way Less and decided that it was just what I needed.

Initially, I met with a Weigh Way Less nutritional coach and we discussed my goals and took measurements, and I was given an eating program to follow. I was to eat 6 times a day and keep a food journal. Twice a week I would meet with different nutrition coaches from Weigh Way Less and we would review my food journal and weigh in. In the beginning I was still making poor food choices, especially when eating out. During one of the meetings with the nutrition coach, we discussed trusting the program. They explained that the program was designed to give my body all the nutrients it needs. As I began to put trust in the program and follow it, the weight began to steadily decrease.

In the process of beginning to trust the program, a friend that I met at the club also joined Weigh Way Less. We were already taking fitness classes together so we would check in with one another to see how we were progressing in Weigh Way Less. We would discuss our difficulties and celebrate our successes each week. Going through the program with a friend only motivated me more to stay on track. We both finished the program with results we were happy with.

At the end of the 12 week program, I lost 24 pounds. I continued to apply what I had learned with Weigh Way Less to further my weight loss efforts. I have now lost the 50 pounds that I set out to do. Weigh Way Less helped me attain a pattern of eating that I can apply to everyday living for a long term healthier lifestyle. I am more energetic and mentally focused now than before.

While adapting to my new eating pattern through Weigh Way less, I also gained confidence to take group fitness classes. I would encourage others to find a good support system such as Weigh Way Less and be patient with the process. Eating right and steady exercise are definitely the tools for success in weight loss. The results will surely be a great reward!”

Melissa Werner has a grand new outlook life
after participating in Universal's Women's Center!

“Growing up with six women in my household, weight and body image have always been an issue. I am the youngest of 5 girls and have struggled with my weight most of my adult life. I want to be a role model for my daughter, Madelyn, who is 9 years old. Seeing me yo-yo with my diet and my weight can’t be healthy for her to watch. So it was time to make a change for life. It didn’t hurt that I am turning 40 in 2009 and will be taking a trip to the Caribbean to celebrate. So I had many reasons to make the change at this time in my life. Universal’s Women’s Weight Loss Center has been a wonderful experience. The support of all who work with me is amazing. I think for me, I really needed to be held accountable, but with a soft hand instead of a stern voice. That is exactly what I get from the staff at WWLC and so much more. From the ladies that weigh me in each week to Jenn, the nutritionist, they are all so supportive and really want to see you succeed. I also have to say that the group fitness classes, which I was ‘afraid’ to try, have been the turning point in the transformation of my physique. I have seen such a difference in the muscle tone and have become really excited about exercise which I had not enjoyed at all in the past. I expect that I will always have to be watchful of what I eat and how much I exercise, but I have a grand new outlook on life and a great support team with my family and all those at Universal.”
